Wow, this was an awesome book. No seriously, I really loved it. I found it on a Borders book pic list and thought it looked really interesting. So I got it from the library and started reading it. I was wary of bad language and scenes, but was very pleased to find that it was clean! I think there were 1 or 2 swear words in the book and it mentioned a couple of issues (such as an incestuous relationship) but it never went into detail. I totally appreciated the fact that the author just let the reader figure it out instead of feeling the need to give specifics.
Quick summary, the book is about the most popular author of the day and what a fantastic storyteller she is. She’s so good in fact, that she has never told the truth of her childhood to interviewers, only made up stories. She is now old and ill and wants to tell her real story. She summons a young biographer to live with her while she tells the story. You get to know both the author and the biographer, and you find similarities to the two as the book progresses.
It’s a great story about life, love, and loss. Because the author is telling the story, it is very rich and colorful (not the language, just the imagery) and I found it really tough to put down. I hope you enjoy it!
